Derrick Walton Jr. tops Zak Irvin in clash of familiar U-M, MSU names in NBA Summer League

ANN ARBOR -- Roughly a thousand miles south of Michigan, a few old names took the court in the NBA Summer League on Sunday.

Former Michigan point guard Derrick Walton Jr. teamed with Michigan State alums Kalin Lucas and Matt Costello for the Orlando Magic. On the other side, former Wolverine Zak Irvin played for the Miami Heat and assistant coach Juwan Howard.

Walton and Irvin spent the last four years together at U-M. In a matchup of familiar faces, they had the most weight in the duel.

Walton got the best of it. He came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including two made 3-pointers, in 21 minutes.
