Last season for Michigan safety Brad Hawkins was likely an interesting one, to say the least. Not only did he and the entire world go through the pandemic, but he also went through a whole football season without a position coach.
Hawkins and the other safeties at Michigan, of course, were unable to learn from any safeties coach last year due to former assistant Bob Shoop being unavailable for the entire 2020 season due to undisclosed reasons. He left Michigan this offseason and was replaced by George Helow. A game of musical chairs later, and Helow now coaches the linebackers, with Ron Bellamy, another new assistant coach brought in this offseason, coaching safeties.
