Coaches prompted defensive switches to tight end

Going into spring practice, most would look at Michigan’s roster of tight ends for the coming season and seen a cupboard that was far from bare. Jim Harbaugh inherited Jake Butt and A.J. Williams as two proven veterans at the position, while Ian Bunting was developing physically and Tyrone Wheatley Jr. was set to join the squad in the fall. But with offensive development a key for the current squad, it was an area where the new coach saw room for improvement.

During the spring, redshirt freshman Chase Winovich made the shift from linebacker to a tight end / H-back role, while redshirt sophomore Henry Poggi worked at the same spot on offense, while continuing to focus on his previously held defensive end spot.
