History is not on the side of the Michigan basketball team.
Only one team with fewer than four Top 100 RPI wins in the past decade was selected as an at-large team for the NCAA tournament, and the Wolverines only have three entering Thursday's Big Ten tournament opener against Northwestern.
But when that evidence was presented to selection committee chairman Joe Castiglione, he cautioned putting everything on history.
"I want to caution you, as we always do, to say that previous years aren't a factor," Castiglione said today on a conference call with reporters. "Each year is very different.
