Brian Wiseman is returning to the Michigan hockey coaching staff but not longtime assistant Billy Powers.
Multiple sources told the Free Press that Wiseman was being retained by new hockey coach Mel Pearson, but a pool of former Wolverines are being considered to be the other assistant coach.
Pearson left Michigan Tech, his alma mater, to become U-M's hockey coach last month. Pearson replaces U-M legend Red Berenson, who decided to retire after winning two NCAA titles (1996, 1998), 11 Frozen Fours and 848 career wins.
Powers recently completed his 24th season on the Michigan coaching staff.
