As Blake Countess lay in the training room digesting the news that he had just torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the former Michigan cornerback had visions of a football player he never knew — Boobie Miles — running through his head.
Miles was the real-life running back depicted in the book and movie “Friday Night Lights” whose promising football career was cut short because of a knee injury.
Countess was initially told he hurt his medial collateral ligament in Michigan’s 2012 season opener against Alabama, and might miss a few weeks. But when the Wolverines returned home from the game, tests revealed a much more significant injury.
