The Big Ten will be playing Friday night football starting next season, a move the conference made with an eye toward more primetime exposure.
Commissioner Jim Delany told the Chicago Tribune on Wednesday that the conference’s new television agreements with ESPN/ABC and Fox will include a package of six prime-time Friday games starting in 2017. The schedule of games could be released this week.
“All things considered,” Delany told the Tribune, “we thought it was worthwhile to dip our toe in the water.”
Delany said the Big Ten likely wouldn’t ask schools with large stadiums to accommodate home games on a Friday night like Ohio State and Penn State while Delany added Michigan has refused to take part in the new scheduling.
