PISCATAWAY – For 30 minutes it was something to behold. The first glimpse of the potential future of Rutgers football, complete with Gavin Wimsatt starting at quarterback, unbeaten, No. 5 Michigan on the ropes and the SHI Stadium faithful engaged.
It was everything Greg Schiano promised – and then some. The young defense gained confidence as the game wore on. The student section was loud. The marching band was probably having its best game of the season, too.
Then it all came unraveled with alarming speed.
Michigan scored four touchdowns in the third quarter, fueled by three interceptions of Wimsatt, taking one back for a score en route to a 52-17 victory.
