ANN ARBOR -- Al Washington's relatively short coaching career has seen the assistant take an upward trajectory.
He's coached at seven different schools over the last 12 years, with his latest stop Michigan, which hired the 33-year-old Washington in January to coach the linebackers and serve as a special teams assistant.
"Every year is kind of its own deal," said Washington, who turns 34 on Sunday. "Did I think I would be offered a job at Michigan at the beginning of the year? No, but I didn't think it was something out of the norm.
