ANN ARBOR -- When it comes to the Michigan football coaching staff, no one has spent more time around Maurice Hurst than Greg Mattison.
Not only has Mattison spent the last three seasons as defensive line coach under Jim Harbaugh, but he was defensive coordinator during Hurst's first two seasons in Ann Arbor.
So when NFL coaches recently dialed up Mattison asking about Hurst's recent health scare, he says he was honest.
And gave a ringing endorsement.
"What's the word? What's the deal?," Mattison said Tuesday, describing recent phone conversations with pro personnel.
"They all know I was in the NFL, and I know what that is.
