After upsetting Ohio State, Michigan somehow drops in ESPN’s SP+ rankings

Michigan shocked the college football universe on Saturday with its win over Ohio State. Despite the victory, the Wolverines lost some ground in the latest edition of Bill Connelly and ESPN’s SP+ rankings, falling from No. 32 to No. 33

For those of you who might be unfamiliar with SP+, it’s an alternative form of ranking college football teams based on efficiencies for a given team on offense, defense, and special teams. Connelly describes it as, “A tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency.”

A team’s efficiencies are used to form one rating that predicts how many points a team should beat (or lose to) the “average” college football team by.
