A day of firsts for Michigan receivers as they break an unwanted streak

ANN ARBOR -- Quarterback Shea Patterson said he wasn't aware of the streak. Same with wide receiver Nico Collins. It had been written and talked about, but not so extensively that it crept into the Michigan locker room.

The unflattering stat: A Michigan receiver had not caught a touchdown pass since the second game of last season, a span of 12 games.

In the second quarter of Michigan's 49-3 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday, the streak was snapped. Nico Collins, a sophomore wide receiver, caught a 44-yard touchdown. It was the first since Sep. 9, 2017, when Grant Perry caught a score in the third quarter against Cincinnati.
