WEST BLOOMFIELD -- When West Bloomfield football coach Ron Bellamy watched Makari Paige practice for the first time on varsity last season, he saw a 6-foot-3, 190-pound safety who had tons of raw potential.
By the end of Paige's sophomore season, he was harnessing that potential.
The four-star recruit, who is ranked fourth in Michigan in the 2020 class and is the ninth-ranked safety in the nation, according to his 247Sports composite, began the year as a backup safety behind two experienced players, but it didn't take long before his athleticism forced the coaching staff to put him on the field.
