Quarterback recruiting happens very early these days. And just two days after the close of the early signing period for 2019, Michigan has a quarterback commit for 2020.
J.D. Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 190-pounder from Pinnacle High School in Arizona, committed to Michigan on Friday.
Johnson is not yet rated by the 247sports composite ranking. He's a 3-star, and the No. 25-ranked pro-style passer in the class, per 247's in-house rankings.
Johnson's an interesting prospect in that he's best known as the player who played behind 5-star quarterback Spencer Rattler at Pinnacle last season.
Rattler, who is going to Oklahoma, was on his way to becoming the first passer in state history to break the 11,000-yard mark before a violation of school policy made him ineligible for the remainder of the 2018 season in late October.
