Senior forward Diego Cuglietta’s second goal of the day gave Lake Superior State the 4-3 overtime victory in the late Great Lakes Invitational semifinal and sent the Lakers into Monday’s final at Little Caesars Arena.
Cuglietta’s shot went past Michigan State goalie John Lethemon with 1:55 remaining in the overtime period.
The Spartans leapt out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Dennis Cesana and Wojciech Stachowiak in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Lakers tied it up with two goals in just under five minutes, then took a 3-2 lead with a goal 13 minutes into the second period.
