The Michigan Wolverines have wrapped up the portion of their spring practice that was held at IMG Academy in Florida. While the practice itself was important, the impact on recruiting was just as critical. Head coach Jim Harbaugh holding practicing at IMG Academy allowed those recruits to see a Michigan practice up close.
"There was only one open practice we could attend," offensive guard Robert Hainsey told ESPN. "It was cool to see them practice though. It wasn’t surreal or anything like that because we are always working out with guys getting ready for the NFL Combine and draft, so we are used to seeing college guys around here. Honestly, I think it would have been more impactful if we could have talked to the staff, but we had no contact. Since I had been up there before, I already knew about the program and the coaches."
NCAA recruiting rules barred Michigan coaches from talking with recruits like Hainsey who had already visited. But the visit from Michigan was key for players like five-star LB Dylan Moses, ESPN's No. 1 player in the nation.
"Just for me to be able to see Michigan practice, it was meaningful," Moses said. "Since I haven’t been up to Michigan, for me to see them practice personally helps [Michigan]. … When I watched the practice, I saw the determination that they have, and played with throughout the season. To see that, it did help them with me."
Michigan extended an offer to Moses, something he'd hope to get.
"I love it," Moses said. "I have wanted an offer from Michigan for so long. Since coach Harbaugh got there, you can see the impact he will have. They went 10-3 last year, and will do great things."
Michigan put together a strong class in Harbaugh's first year at the helm of the Wolverines. With the recruiting boost that comes from holding practice at IMG Academy, the Wolverines should end up with another impressive class in 2017.
