Photo: Shea Patterson Teases New Michigan Jersey Number That Is "Heisman-Worthy"

Michigan transfer QB Shea Patterson, who still is not eligible (nor has he yet appealed to be) in 2018, caused a stir tonight by posting a glimpse of what seems to be a new Michigan football jersey with his name on it, and a brand new number.

Patterson was famous at Ole Miss for wearing the #20, in honor of his grandfather and former Pistons player George Patterson, but now looks to be making a jersey number change to the famous #2 that Charles Woodson wore to win the Heisman and National Championship at Michigan in 1997. See the photo from his Snapchat story below:

The player that Shea is most often compared to, Johnny Manziel, also wore #2 at Texas A&M during his 2012 Heisman season.

While this is not 100% guaranteed that Patterson will wear #2 for Jim Harbaugh in 2018 and 2019, a number change was rumored for weeks. Some suggested that #20 was an "Ole Miss #" and Patterson was going to start fresh at Michigan with something different. His high school #7 is already taken by starting WR Tarik Black, but #2 was worn in 2017 also. Freshman WR Oliver Martin wore #2 last season.

With John O'Korn no longer on the team in 2018, it's assumed that Martin will move to the #8 jersey he wore in high school that O'Korn vacated, leaving #2 available.

With the hype surrounding Patterson and the allure of #2 at Michigan, we have no doubt that Jordan and Nike will mass-produce the jersey coming into the 2018 season, should Patterson be eligible.
