Michigan Wolverines tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh was one of several UM coaches who expressed their sadness and shock over the retirement of Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach Jerry Kill on Wednesday morning. Kill left his post due to increasing challenges of attempting to balance his fight with epilepsy with the rigors of being a college football coach.
"Sad. I figured it was something that had to have been pretty serious. You never want to hear anything like that," U-M tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh said. "You hope and pray he gets healthy and he deals with everything all right. It's a serious thing."
Losing a coach midseason is never an easy thing for any group of kids. However, Harbaugh believes the Wolverines will still get all they can handle when they travel to Minnesota for Saturday's game against the Golden Gophers.
"Maybe the best credit to him is that they would play like their hair's on fire, regardless," Harbaugh said. "I think that says a lot about who he is and how he coaches. You're not going to show up and see a different team. I think that's how he would want it and how those guys play."
