Dwumfour decommitted from Penn State on Sunday following an official visit to Happy Valley over the weekend.
His commitment is thought to give Michigan a big leg up in landing five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary (Paramus, NJ), who is the No. 1 overall recruit in the country. Dwumfour and Gary are good friends from the New Jersey area.
Dwumfour also committed because of five-star running back Kareem Walker, who was his high school teammate. Walker flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Michigan last month, and all three prospects are very close.
Gary is set to announce his decision on Feb. 3, National Signing Day. Michigan is the favorite to land him, but Auburn, Ole Miss, and USC are also in the running.
Dwumfour is ranked as the No. 58 defensive tackle and No. 964 overall prospect in the country.
