The Michigan Wolverines are turning up the heat on the recruiting trail before fall practice starts, and it's already paying dividends. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding Michigan's recruiting efforts:
Wolverines offer 4-star RB
Four-star running back Markese Stepp (Indianapolis, IN) picked up an offer from Michigan on his visit to Ann Arbor on Saturday, and that could put Michigan in the forefront of his recruitment. Notre Dame appears to be his current leader, but the Wolverines will definitely be a factor in his recruitment after the offer.
The 6'0", 202-pounder is ranked as the No. 12 running back and No. 209 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
Michigan on top for nation's top wideout after visit
Donovan Peoples-Jones (Detroit, MI) is the nation's No. 1 wide receiver and the Michigan Wolverines are one of several teams after him. The Detroit Cass Tech player took a visit to Michigan yesterday and came away more than impressed.
Rivals.com reports (subscription required) that Peoples-Jones had a "mind-blowing visit" to Michigan. Peoples-Jones' father was a graduate of Michigan's medical school, and that's what he wants to study. On his visit to Michigan, Peoples-Jones got an up-close look at the medical facilities and a chance to speak with several doctors. Peoples-Jones was so impressed, that Rivals reports Michigan "may be firmly in the driver's seat."
With that said, Peoples-Jones doesn't plan to commit anytime soon, and probably won't until National Signing Day.
Ohio State and Michigan State appear to be the two schools closest to Michigan in the race for Peoples-Jones. Schools like Alabama, Florida and Notre Dame are also making a strong push for Peoples-Jones.
