The Michigan Wolverines don't want to ever lose Jim Harbaugh. At least, that's what the latest rumor indicates. According to Brady Quinn, now an analyst for Fox Sports, Michigan is working on a lifetime contract for Harbaugh.
"I talked to someone who's kind of an insider within that program, and we had a long, drawn out conversation," Quinn said on Fox Sports Radio. "What he told me was they're working on a lifetime contract. I swear to you, that was his words.
"I kind of pressed him on it and said, 'Really? A lifetime deal? What would that even look like? He couldn't give me particulars, but he said that's one of the things that they are talking about. That's how confident -- that's how good they feel about Jim Harbaugh and how glad they are to have him there. So maybe that's something that Harbaugh wants."
The move would come less than three years into Harbaugh's tenure at Michigan. The Wolverines have yet to win a Big Ten East title, but went 10-3 in his first two years and hold an 8-3 record this season. Harbaugh has recruited well and helped turn around a program that had won 10 games just twice since 2004.
Harbaugh played at Michigan and the Wolverines landing him after he left the San Francisco 49ers was a major get. Harbaugh has been linked to other NFL jobs, mostly through reckless speculation. A lifetime contract with his alma mater would show he's not very interested in leaving.
