The Michigan Wolverines wrapped up the 2018 recruiting class earlier this month and have since switched their focus to upcoming spring practice and the 2019 recruiting class. Here are all the latest Michigan news & rumors you need to know:
Shea Patterson will partake in practice this spring
Ole Miss transfer Shea Patterson is still waiting to hear if he'll be eligible to play immediately for the Wolverines, but that impending decision will have no bearing on his status for the spring. He will be able to practice with Michigan no matter what.
In the appeal for immediate eligibility, he and other former Ole Miss players are claiming that former head coach Hugh Freeze knowingly lied to them about potential infractions and the focus of then-future NCAA investigations, misleading them in the recruiting process.
Patterson started the last few games of the 2016 season for Ole Miss and put up eye-popping numbers in the first seven games of this past season, throwing for 2,259 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Wolverines a favorite for 3-star CB
Michigan recently offered a scholarship to three-star cornerback Jalen Frazier (Cornelius, NC), and that has put the Wolverines right at the forefront of his recruitment.
“I am very interested in Michigan,” Frazier said. “I would like to come up for a visit at some point to get around the coaches and the culture of the program. Their fan base is one of the best in the nation and a college degree from there holds weight nationally.
“Michigan is definitely in the mix. Top 4 if I had to narrow it down today. Once I get to know more about them and have more interactions and conversations with the staff, then I will be able to better judge if its the place for me. But I can definitely see myself playing in The Big House!”
Frazier is also heavily considering Duke, North Carolina, NC State, and West Virginia.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder is ranked as the No. 95 cornerback and No. 1,033 overall prospect in the country, according to the 247sports Composite.
Michigan hoping to get two 5-star prospects on campus this spring
Jim Harbaugh & Co. are hoping to get several prospects on campus for official visits during the spring, and their top focus is to bring five-star defensive tackles Ishmael Sopsher and Travon Walker to Ann Arbor in the coming months, according to Steve Lorenz of TheMichiganInsider.com.
At this point, Michigan continues to push for spring official visits with five-stars Ishmael Sopsher and Travon Walker. The current belief is that they will have a legitimate shot at getting both on campus.
Sopsher is ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 4 overall prospect in the country, while Walker is ranked as the No. 3 defensive tackle and No. 32 overall prospect in the country. They are currently believed to be favoring LSU and Georgia, respectively.
