The #18 Michigan Wolverines have a massive test on-hand this Saturday when they host the undefeated #13 Northwestern Wildcats -- a game pitting two teams who could have an inside track towards a Big Ten title. The game is the first thing on everyone's minds right now, but there's also intrigue to be had when it comes to the program's recruiting efforts heading into this weekend. Here's a snapshot of the biggest recruiting goings-on around Ann Arbor this weekend:
New Jersey Recruits Taking Over Ann Arbor
Three Michigan commits from the state of New Jersey will be in Ann Arbor this week for the team's showdown with the Northwestern Wildcats: Ahmir Mitchell (official), Ron Johnson and Brad Hawkins (unofficial). They'll be joined by fellow New Jersey native and Nebraska commitment Quayshon Alexander who has been on Michigan's radar for quite some time now.
The tact that Michigan ultimately takes when it comes to a potential flip of Alexander will likely hinge on how they fair with Carlo Kemp -- the other 2016 player they're targeting at BUCK. Kemp is considered by many to be a Michigan lean, but Notre Dame a major player in the mix right now.
UM A Favorite For Three-Star TE?
Michigan will play host to Tampa (FL) Berkeley Prep tight end Jacob Mathis this weekend, and while Mathis is trending heavily towards the Florida Gators, 247Sports analyst Steve Lorenz says there's two key factors working in UM's favor right now.
"One, former Wolverine kicker Garrett Rivas is an assistant coach at Berkeley and has stayed in Mathis's ear about Michigan throughout the process," Lorenz wrote on Friday. "Second, he's an academic kid, which is why some believe he's been holding out for an offer from Stanford. Still, he's pretty wide open at this point, with Ole Miss and Miami (FL) among others he's strongly considering."
