The Michigan Wolverines closed the regular season with a controversial loss at Ohio State, and now figure to have a long layoff as they prepare for their bowl game. During that time, expect them to ramp up their recruiting efforts to improve an already stellar class that ranks in the top 10 nationally with 20 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Michigan visiting Najee Harris this weekend
Najee Harris (Antioch, CA) is the No. 1 prospect in the country, has been Michigan's top target in the 2017 class even though he committed to Alabama in April 2015. He is schedule to make an official visit to Ann Arbor next weekend, but members from Michigan's coaching staff are visiting him this weekend, according to Matt Wenzel of MLive.com.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and members of his staff have stopped by to see numerous commits and targets across the country and will reportedly visit the No. 1 overall player in the nation. Steve Lorenz, a recruiting analyst for Wolverine 247, reported that Michigan will visit 2017 five-star running back and Alabama commit Najee Harris from Antioch High School in California this weekend.
Antioch (8-4) is scheduled to play Monte Vista (11-1) Saturday night for a North Coast Section Division 1 title. Harris has 269 carries for 2,596 yards and 33 touchdowns this season.
Harbaugh hosted a satellite camp at Antioch in June and, during Michigan's bye week in October, he returned to the school to watch Harris play and even announced the homecoming queen.
Harris made his official visit to Alabama last weekend for the Iron Bowl.
4-star DE target to commit at Army Bowl
Deron Irving-Bay, a four-star defensive end from Flint, MI, will announce his college decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He is considering Cincinnati, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse and Tennessee.
Irving-Bay, a 6-foot-5, 282-pounder is ranked as the No. 11 strong-side defensive end and No. 303 overall prospect in the country.
The game is being held on Jan. 7 in San Antonio, Texas, and will be televised by NBC.
Wolverines may flip ND commit
Three-star cornerback Elijah Hicks (La Mirada, CA) was expected to sign with Notre Dame on signing day, but after visiting Ann Arbor for Michigan's win over Indiana, 247sports' Steve Wiltfong reports Michigan is now seriously in the running.
Prior to versatile defensive back Elijah Hicks official visit to Michigan this past weekend, his La Miranda (Calif.) High coach Mike Moschetti told Irish247 insider Tom Loy that the West Coast talent was "100-percent signing with Notre Dame."
I took that with a grain of salt as if you like one, you generally like the other regarding the Irish and Wolverines. You don't just take a free trip to Ann Arbor, and say he did, regardless you'd leave impressed.
That's exactly what happened. 247Sports is told Hicks left impressed.
If Hicks didn't have any intentions of rethinking his decision to Notre Dame before the visit, a well-placed source on the Michigan side told 247Sports he certainly is now.
Hicks gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Oct. 18. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is ranked as the No. 37 cornerback and No. 340 overall prospect in the country.
