The Michigan Wolverines closed the regular season with a controversial loss at Ohio State, and now figure to have a long layoff as they prepare for their bowling game. During that time, expect them to ramp up their recruiting efforts to improve an already stellar class that ranks in the top 10 nationally with 20 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Wolverines may flip ND commit
Three-star cornerback Elijah Hicks (La Mirada, CA) was expected to sign with Notre Dame on signing day, but after visiting Ann Arbor for Michigan's win over Indiana, 247sports' Steve Wiltfong reports Michigan is now seriously in the running.
Prior to versatile defensive back Elijah Hicks official visit to Michigan this past weekend, his La Miranda (Calif.) High coach Mike Moschetti told Irish247 insider Tom Loy that the West Coast talent was "100-percent signing with Notre Dame."
I took that with a grain of salt as if you like one, you generally like the other regarding the Irish and Wolverines. You don't just take a free trip to Ann Arbor, and say he did, regardless you'd leave impressed.
That's exactly what happened. 247Sports is told Hicks left impressed.
If Hicks didn't have any intentions of rethinking his decision to Notre Dame before the visit, a well-placed source on the Michigan side told 247Sports he certainly is now.
Hicks gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Oct. 18. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is ranked as the No. 37 cornerback and No. 340 overall prospect in the country.
Wilton Speight's younger brother commits to Michigan
Speight has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and he'll have his brother on campus with him next season. Jess Speight, an offensive lineman, has committed to Wolverines as a preferred walk-on. He had offers from North Carolina State, James Madison and Richmond, but wanted to play for Michigan.
5-star safety has Michigan in top 5
Five-star safety B.J. Foster (Angleton, TX) revealed his top five schools on Twitter, with Michigan among the teams making the cut:
I'm thankful for the opportunity god has given me to play the sport that I love at another level. With that being said top 5 top 5 #ATT pic.twitter.com/wV2wCquHbz

The 6-foot-1, 188-pounder is ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 9 overall prospect in the country.
