The Michigan Wolverines are hitting the stretch run of the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Wolverines' 2017 class already ranks in the top 10 nationally with 18 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Nico Collins high on Wolverines
Four-star wide receiver Nico Collins (Pinson, AL) made his official visit to Michigan this past weekend to watch them take on Maryland, and came away feeling very impressed with what the Wolverines have to offer:
"I would have to say the best part of this visit was being there and seeing game day," Collins told Scout.com. "I have been there for camps before, I had been there over the summer before, but being there for a game and seeing the atmosphere was nice. I walked into the stadium down on the field during pre-game, and the fans were calling my name, telling me, 'Go Blue' and it was a pretty special feeling.
"They just made me feel like a real priority. I got to see the game, hang out with some of the players, spend time with the entire coaching staff and it was a great trip. I had the feeling up there that made me feel like Michigan could be my home. I definitely could see myself there."
Collins is also considering Alabama and Georgia, but Michigan appears to be his leader. The 6-foot-5, 196-pounder is ranked as the No. 13 wide receiver and No. 90 overall prospect in the country.
Michigan leads for Aubrey Solomon
Four-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon (Leesburg, GA) originally committed to Michigan this summer, but decommitted in August. Though the Wolverines are still in the running, many thought he was favoring Georgia or Alabama - until he made an official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend. He told Ryan Bartow of 247sports that the Wolverines are his clear No. 1 choice after the visit.
“It would be very hard to beat them,” Solomon, a former Michigan commit, said.
Solomon said the trip was equally eye-opening for his mother, who visited Michigan for the first time.
“She understood why I committed in the first place,” Solomon said. “I think the visit went perfect. It made my mom very, very happy. She loves the academics there and how the players have internships. If my mom is happy I’m happy.”
The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder is ranked as the No. 4 defensive tackle and No. 59 overall prospect in the country.
Asante Samuel Jr. high on Michigan
The four-star cornerback is the No. 17 ranked cornerback in the 2018 class, and has already picked up 37 offers. However, there are five that stand out to him at the moment, and Michigan is among that group.
"How they've changed the program around so fast with coach (Jim) Harbaugh," Samuel said when describing why he likes the Wolverines. "Their defense has done a great job."
He also likes Miami, Florida State, Clemson and Ohio State. Samuel (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is ranked as the No. 113 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
