The Michigan Wolverines are focused on beating Ohio State and making the College Football Playoff, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Wolverines' 2017 class already ranks in the top 10 nationally with 19 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Najee Harris to make official visit, could flip commitment from Alabama
Najee Harris, the No. 1 recruit in the country, has been Michigan's top target in the 2017 class even though he committed to Alabama in April 2015. He is now set to make an official visit to Ann Arbor on December 10, and Steve Lorenz of 247sports reports that he could flip his commitment to Michigan after the visit:
As we've been reporting since August, Michigan fully expected to get Harris back on campus after his successful visit for the BBQ at the Big House. On top of that, the vibe I got was that if the staff was able to get Harris back on campus that they'd feel very good about the chance of flipping him from the Tide.
As you'd expect in a recruitment of this magnitude, Michigan has been attacking it from every angle. Jim Harbaugh has obviously played a major role in this one, as has running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh. Communication has picked up since the point earlier in the season where Harris wasn't doing much (or any) talking to college coaches.
It's also worth noting that the December 10th weekend will be one in which a bunch of commitments are on campus, along with the potential for some top targets like Donovan Peoples-Jones and Ambry Thomas to be on campus. Expect the weekend to arguably be the biggest of the cycle for the staff as they look to close on a handful of targets who are expected to enroll early.
Harris is making his official visit to Alabama on Saturday to watch them play Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
Michigan in top 3 for top 2019 recruit
Five-star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux (Los Angeles, CA) is the top ranked recruit in the 2019 class by 247sports and already has 13 offers. While he is still hoping for offers from Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State, he currently has Michigan, Washington and USC as his top three choices. The biggest selling point for Michigan is head coach Jim Harbaugh, who Thibodeaux called a "really cool guy and is a really great coach for them."
3-star DT "enjoyed" visit to Michigan
Oregon commit Rutger Reitmaier, a three-star defensive tackle from Nashville, TN, made his official visit to Michigan on Saturday with his parents. His father, Rik, said they all really enjoyed the visit.
"Very gracious people," he said. "They feel real to me. The game was cold but awesome. He, we enjoyed the visit," Rik said. "They were very gracious with their time. They really made him feel welcome and answered all our questions."
The 6-foot-3, 270-pounder is ranked as the No. 11 defensive tackle and No. 171 overall prospect in the country by 247sports.
