The Michigan Wolverines only have two games left in the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Wolverines' 2017 class already ranks in the top 10 nationally with 19 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Kelly-Powell commits to Michigan
Four-star safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell (Detroit, MI) announced his commitment to Michigan on Tuesday morning:
"(Being a) Michigan Man is an man of honor, education and hard work," Kelly-Powell said. "All my alumni brothers from Cass Tech that are Michigan Men are pillars of the community. Those guys, Delano Hill, JD, Big Mike, Terry Richardson, etc..., made this decision a little easier.
"Honestly, it came down to Michigan, Oregon, Nebraska and Wisconsin. It was hard, but position fit. Michigan changed from recruiting me as a safety to the Viper Position aka Jabrill Peppers' position. It's more of a fit for me. Nickel, safety, corner. He plays all over the defense and that's something I like. I love playing the nickel spot, but didn't want to come off the field when the nickel isn't in. That position fits what I like to do, in the box, blitz, cover man to man and play up top at times. There is an opportunity for me to come in and compete to play as a freshman, if he goes pro early."
The 6-foot, 180-pounder is ranked as the No. 21 safety and No. 260 overall prospect in the country by 247sports.
Four top targets to visit this weekend
Michigan's home finale is Saturday against Indiana, and they are using this weekend to give some of their top remaining targets one last look at the Big House atmosphere. According to the Detroit Free Press, four-star OT Isaiah Wilson (Brooklyn, NY), four-star DT Rutger Reitmaier (Nashville, TN), three-star FB Tory Carter (Leesburg, GA) and WR Brad Hawkins (Suffolk, VA) will all be in attendance on Saturday.
Nico Collins high on Wolverines
Four-star wide receiver Nico Collins (Pinson, AL) made his official visit to Michigan this past weekend to watch them take on Maryland, and came away feeling very impressed with what the Wolverines have to offer:
"I would have to say the best part of this visit was being there and seeing game day," Collins told Scout.com. "I have been there for camps before, I had been there over the summer before, but being there for a game and seeing the atmosphere was nice. I walked into the stadium down on the field during pre-game, and the fans were calling my name, telling me, 'Go Blue' and it was a pretty special feeling.
"They just made me feel like a real priority. I got to see the game, hang out with some of the players, spend time with the entire coaching staff and it was a great trip. I had the feeling up there that made me feel like Michigan could be my home. I definitely could see myself there."
Collins is also considering Alabama and Georgia, but Michigan appears to be his leader. The 6-foot-5, 196-pounder is ranked as the No. 13 wide receiver and No. 90 overall prospect in the country.
