The Michigan Wolverines are hitting the stretch run of the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Wolverines' 2017 class already ranks in the top 10 nationally with 18 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
Asante Samuel Jr. high on Michigan
The four-star cornerback is the No. 17 ranked cornerback in the 2018 class, and has already picked up 37 offers. However, there are five that stand out to him at the moment, and Michigan is among that group.
"How they've changed the program around so fast with coach (Jim) Harbaugh," Samuel said when describing why he likes the Wolverines. "Their defense has done a great job."
He also likes Miami, Florida State, Clemson and Ohio State. Samuel (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is ranked as the No. 113 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
Michigan leads for 3-star OT
Makhi Becton, a three-star offensive tackle from Highland Springs, Virginia, took an official visit to Michigan over the weekend, and told 247sports that his experience in Ann Arbor has him favoring the Wolverines.
"The environment was great," Becton said. "It really sends chills through your body. Jim Harbaugh, the Big House, the academics, the players, the campus, the atmosphere. Michigan really separated themselves with this visit definitely."
Michigan has placed an emphasis on adding offensive lineman in this recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-7, 345-pounder is ranked as the No. 41 offensive tackle and No. 382 overall prospect in the country.
4-star OT also visited
Another tackle in attendance for the game against Maryland was four-star Aaron Banks (El Cerrito, CA), and after the game, announced that he will be announcing him commitment in December so he can enroll early. He is also considering USC, Oregon and Notre Dame, but was very impressed with his time in Ann Arbor.
"I knew they would be good, just didn't know how good," Banks said. "The environment was awesome as well. I got a chance to get around some of the players and kind of pick their brains about the university and football program. I have a good chance to play early there and it was a great experience overall."
The 6-foot-7, 315-pounder is ranked as the No. 19 offensive tackle and No. 164 overall prospect in the country.
