The Michigan Wolverines are nearly halfway through the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Wolverines' 2017 class already ranks in the top 10 nationally with 17 commitments. Here are all the latest Michigan football recruiting news:
5-star LB talks visit
Five-star linebacker Baron Browning (Kennedale, TX) took his official visit to Michigan last weekend, and spoke with 247sports' Ryan Bartow about the trip and what he likes about the Wolverines:
“The academics and alumni I guess, more so the network opportunity they have for their players,” Browning said. “The opportunity after football and then really just the whole general feeling. I felt real comfortable around everybody. Pretty much what the coaches said on as far as we are family oriented and them caring about the players from coach (Don) Brown the DC all the way down to coach (Chris) Partridge my position coach, the LB coach. And same way with coach (Jim) Harbaugh and then all the way down to the strength coach.
“First off my mom asked him if he planned on leaving because when he was at Stanford after my brother’s freshman year he left. He told us he wasn’t planning on going anywhere. He told us his goal was to put the most guys in The League, that’s something he wants to do, just really help his players and be there for them as a resource.”
The 6'3", 230-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker and No. 9 overall prospect in the country.
5-star Alabama commit says "best visit" was to Ann Arbor
Five-star offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood (Pensacola, FL) committed to Alabama in June 2015, but it seems like he isn't completely sold on that commitment. After taking an official visit to Michigan, he tweeted that it was the best visit he had:
Tbh my Michigan visit it was by far the best visit I've ever been on. Best fans and an amazing city I'll definitely be back #GoBlue
— Alex Leatherwood (@Alskee_) October 4, 2016
Leatherwood is still also considering Florida, Miami and USC, but Michigan is thought to be Alabama's biggest competition. The 6'6", 327-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 5 overall prospect in the country.
