The Class of 2016 is chock full of uncommitted recruits with top-level talent, but it takes more than just skimming off the top of the five-star and four-star lists to make a recruiting class work. Michigan football's coaches know that, and these next three guys represent crucial pieces of Michigan's future puzzle from a program-impact perspective.
DE Rashan Gary
The #1 prospect in the nation for the Class of 2016, Gary has unreal athleticism for a defensive end of his size. His athleticism is made even more lethal by his lateral quickness and his ability to drive under blocks and disrupt offensive lineman quickly off the snap. A three-tech tackle with #1 NFL Draft pick upside, Gary would be a banner pickup for new Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh and would instant transform a very good defensive recruiting class into THE top defensive haul in the nation.
WR Ahmir Mitchell
Mitchell is a home-run threat for which to build a passing attack around. His straight-line speed is one thing. However, it's his ability to accelerate off the catch and from a dead stop on routes which makes him a must-grab for the Wolverines. The offense has been in need for an influx of NFL-caliber playmakers for some time now. Mitchell has the frame and the ability to cut the tops off of secondaries which fits that bill.
OLB Caleb Kelly
Kelly is one of, if not the most athletic linebacker in the Class of 2016. His versatility would be a huge boon for USC, seeing that he has the frame and pure football ability to move anywhere from safety to wide receiver with repeated reps. He's a high-upside game-changer who has already made the prep game look easy. Signing a linebacker who looks effortless in pass coverage, helping against the run AND doing other odds and ends would be more than just a luxury. It'd be a MASSIVE get.
