Washington had hoped to compete for playing time in a secondary that replaces four starters, but he had already been moved from corner to safety. Washington was likely going to serve as a top backup this year and again contribute on special teams.

With Washington gone, the cornerback spot will feature heavily feature David Long and Lavert Hill, with Ambry Thomas and Brandon Watson also in line for notable snaps. Safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell had recently moved down to corner, but with Washington's transfer, he could shift back to safety. At safety, Tyree Kinnel and Josh Metellus should start. Jordan Glasgow will provide depth, as could J’Marick Woods and Brad Hawkins. Both are true freshmen.
Washington was a three-star recruit from Prattville, Alabama in the class of 2015. It's unclear where Washington will look to transfer. If he picks an FBS school, he will need to sit out for one season.
