The Michigan Wolverines are still in the midst of spring practice in preparation for the 2016 season, but that doesn't mean head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff have ignored recruiting trail. The Wolverines are hard at work in their attempt to land a strong 2017 recruiting class. Here are all the latest news and rumors surrounding Michigan Football Recruiting.
Why Josh Ross Committed To Michigan
Ross is a four-star LB and the No. 188 player in the class of 2017. He committed to Michigan earlier this week and spoke with the Detroit Free Press about why he's going to be a Wolverine.
"After I sat down with [defensive coordinator Dan] Brown, that kind of sealed the deal," Ross said. "He then told the coaching staff in person at Schembechler Hall. “Looking at how I can fit in the defense, it was kind of perfect for me."
Michigan had a good shot with Ross from the beginning, as his brother James played for the Wolverines. Ross is now going to help convince others, including five-star WR Donovan Peoples-Jones to join him at Michigan.
Michigan Going After Three-Star Lineman
The Wolverines are pursuing three-star lineman Popo Aumavae. We use lineman, because Aumavae could play on either side of the line if he heads to Michigan. He could have a visit to Michigan in the very near future.
"It's definitely a possibility that I will be at the Spring Game on April 1st," Aumavae told 247Sports. "I'm really hoping it works out. I have been in contact with Coach Tuioti, Coach Harbaugh, Coach Drevno and Coach Switzer. They are really high on my game and are trying hard to get me to come out and visit."
The California recruit holds offers from schools like Michigan, Oregon, Washington and UCLA, among others.
Three-Star DT Visiting Thursday
The Wolverines are getting a visit from three-start DT Phillip Paea, reports 247Sports. The Michigan product is the No. 17 player in the state and holds offers from Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State. This is the third visit to Ann Arbor for Paea since the Wolverines offered him on Feb. 12th.
