The Michigan Wolverines just put the finishing touches on one of best recruiting classes in 2016. With 2016 in the mirror recruiting-wise, the Wolverines, head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff have already turned their attention to the 2017 class.
Quarterbacks are incredibly important in college football, which is why it's not a surprise that Michigan is targeting several this cycle. The Wolverines won't land every player on this list. In fact, they'll likely only sign one or two. A big tip of the hat to 247Sports, as their rankings were used to detail the recruits' overall and position rankings. The players are listed in descending order of their overall rank. With that in mind, here are the 6 QBs Jim Harbaugh is recruiting in 2017.
6. Jelani Woods
Woods is the lone three-star recruit on this list. He's the No. 33 pro-style QB and the No. 640 overall recruit, but he has great size at 6-foot-7, 225-pounds. He's athletic as well and could be the type of player the coaching staff molds into a productive QB. The Wolverines offered him in January and put themselves in a good position to land him. However, other schools could soon offer the Georgia product as well, complicating things for Michigan.
5. Kasim Hill
Hill is one of five four-star recruits on this list, and he's the No. 301 overall player in the class of 2017. He's from Maryland, with Penn State recruiting him hard. It's unlikely he ends up at Michigan, although the Wolverines did make him an offer.
4. Jack Coan
Coan is the No. 286 overall player. He's the No. 14 pro-style QB and the second-best player from the state of New York. While Michigan has offered him and their academics intrigue Coan, he might elect to stay closer to home and attend Rutgers.
3. Bailey Hockman
Hockman was committed to Georgia, but decommitted in December. That's made it a wide-open race for the No. 124 overall recruit. He's the No. 7 pro-style QB and No. 18 player from Georgia. The Wolverines have already offered Hockman, but it's too early to say for certain if they are a true threat.
2. Davis Mills
Mills is the No. 98 overall recruit in the class of 2017 and the No. 5 pro-style QB. Another QB from Georgia this year, Mills has offers from nearly every school. He's visited Michigan and Stanford already, although the Cardinal appear to be the (slight) early favorites.
1. Dylan McCaffrey
That last name should ring a bell, as McCaffrey is the younger brother of Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey. Despite being the No. 45 overall player, the No. 2 pro-style recruit and a legacy, the Cardinal have yet to offer. That's put the Wolverines in the driver's seat and McCaffrey has visited twice. While a Stanford offer could complicate things, Michigan is the favorite for McCaffrey.
