Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines are working hard to land five-star recruit Darnay Holmes. In his attempt to land Holmes, Harbaugh's confidence in what he's doing at Michigan is evident.
"Jim Harbaugh is Jim Harbaugh - everyone knows about him and what's going on up there," Holmes told Rivals.com (subscription required). "Words from him, 'I'm creating a monster up here, would love you to be apart of it.'"
Holmes is the No. 8 player in the country according to 247Sports. A cornerback and wide receiver, Holmes is listed as the top athlete in the country. Hailing from California, he's the No. 2 player in the state. He's got offers from nearly every program in the nation, but what happens with his cousin Desean Holmes could affect where Darnay Holmes goes ends up.
Desean Holmes was a four-star recruit in the class of 2015 and committed to San Diego State. But he never played a down at SDSU and lasted less than a week. But Michigan is recruiting Holmes, who recently changed his Twitter background to an edit of him wearing Michigan gear. If the elder Holmes ends up at Michigan, that could boost the Wolverines chances to land Darnay.
"We are trying to find a school that's a perfect fit for us both," Holmes said. "We are taking the same official visit to Michigan."
Also helping the Wolverines with Holmes is the relationship between Holmes' father and secondary coach Mike Zordich. Darick Holmes was an NFL running back for five years, while Zordich was a safety for 12.
"Secondary coach Mike Zordich came by last week," Holmes said. My dad and him go way back when they were both playing in the NFL," he said. "He's got my father's trust to put my career in his hands."
Michigan might not be the favorite to land Holmes, but they are certainly in the mix. Given how well Harbaugh has recruited in his short time at Michigan, landing Holmes is definitely a possibility.
