Michigan Wolverines quarterback Brandon Peters took over as the starting quarterback halfway through this season and was expected to go into 2018 as the starter, but that no longer appears to be the case after former Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson announced he was transferring to Michigan.
However, that doesn't mean Peters is transferring. His father, David Peters, told TheWolverine.com that his son "welcomes competition" and will stay at Michigan.
"Brandon welcomes competition," Peters said. "If you don’t welcome it then why would you play a sport. He loves U-M and is preparing along with the team to play in the Outback Bowl. Then get ready to compete in the spring. If you know Coach [Harbaugh] he will always push boys with competition.
"Why would he leave?"
The Wolverines are expected to have a three-way quarterback battle between Patterson, Peters, and redshirt freshman Dylan McCaffrey in the coming offseason with Patterson expected to win the job.

Wilton Speight, who began the season as Michigan's starter before suffering a spine injury against Purdue, announced plans to transfer for his final season of eligibility two weeks ago.
Peters appeared in five games this season, including four starts, passing for 486 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
