In one of many head-to-head recruiting battles to come between new Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh and Ohio State football HC Urban Meyer, Harbaugh has claimed a victory by securing the pledge of coveted 2016 four-star Egg Harbor Harbor (NJ) Cedar Creek wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell.
Mitchell announced his decision publicly via a video shared on Bleacher Report just a bit after 5pm EST on Thursday, ending what was heavily publicized as a two-horse race between UM and OSU.
The insanely awesome catch? The video ended with a plane (!) flying over Atlantic City trailing a banner that simply said "GO BLUE."
The 6-foot-3, 206-pound prospect has long been considered a heavy Michigan lean, and there was doubt heading into today about whether or not there was an actually committable Ohio State offer on the table.
If that's true, perhaps this wasn't as much of a "head-to-head" recruiting war as it was billed to be. Regardless, Michigan has gotten their man -- a dynamic inside/outside threat who boasts great accelaration out of his breaks and the pure strength to shake off would-be tacklers in the open field. He joins 2016 four-star Camden (NJ) wideout Brad Hawkins as one of Michigan's two marquee WR gets this recruiting cycle. His commitment makes seven 2016 ESPN 300 commits for Jim Harbaugh.
Ranked as the #6 overall athlete in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports' Composite Rankings system, Mitchell last visited Columbus on July 24th for OSU's Friday Night Lights camp. He made a trip to Ann Arbor the very next day.
