The Michigan Wolverines landed a commitment from four-star QB Dylan McCaffrey Monday night, the No. 2 pro-style QB in the nation. He's the younger brother of Stanford Cardinal RB Christian McCaffrey, and many are hailing McCaffrey as a strong addition to Michigan's 2017 recruiting class.
McCaffrey picked up an offer from Michigan last February, and had a strong junior season. He completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 2,800 yards, 27 TDs and just four picks. He can also run, picking up 592 yards and 13 TDs on the ground.
"When it comes to quarterbacks, especially, you’re always trying to find something to critique. And with Dylan, he really checks off every box," Scout.com's Greg Biggins told the Detroit Free Press. "He’s mobile, he’s smart, he’s tough, spins the football, the arm respect is there. He throws the football early, on time, he’s accurate. Off the field, he’s got the high-level work ethic, teammates love him, poised beyond his years. He doesn’t ever seem to get rattled. You can find something wrong with everybody, but with Dylan, all you can say is he can put on some weight. ... But that’ll happen without even trying."
McCaffrey has a thin frame, checking it at 6-foot-5 and 182-pounds. So adding weight will be key, but that should happen naturally. Biggins wasn't the only one high on McCaffrey.
"I think he may be the most complete quarterback in this class," 247sports' Barton Simmons told MLive.com. "I mean, he checks every box. He's big, he's very mobile, he's got some straight-line athleticism, can run away from defenders and extend plays. He's got a big arm and he's just got a pedigree you can trust. He's got the production and the success on the field to validate all of that. When you're looking at quarterbacks across the board in this class that are potential draft picks or NFL guys down the road, Dylan is one of the first guys you put a star next to."
Michigan had a strong 2016 recruiting class, and the addition of McCaffrey early is a sign they'll have another promising class for 2017.
