The 2015 Michigan football spring game has come and gone, and there's plenty to be excited about after our first extended on-field look at the Jim Harbaugh era in motion. Here's What We Learned From Michigan's 2015 Spring Football Game.
Shane Morris is emerging as the clear favorite at QB
Harbaugh told reporters after the game that junior Shane Morris is #1 on the team's depth chart for now. While both Morris and true freshman Alex Malzone both looked shaky at best throughout the course of the day, Morris began to a find a rhythm as the game progressed while Malzone looked out of sorts after throwing two interceptions. The competition is still open, but it looks to be Morris' job to lose thanks to his experience and his propensity to adapt and learn from his struggles.
The defense is ready to rock and roll
Aggression. Attention to detail. Intelligence.
Michigan's defense looked like it would be ready for the regular season to start tomorrow, showing a nose for the ball and the energy/experience combination that will provide the Wolverines with one of the most feared units in all of the Power 5 conferences. Lawrence Marshall's sack of Shane Morris was one of those highlights we won't soon forget from the spring game, and neither will we forget his amazing postgame quote on the sack: "I just wanted to hit him."
Don't look for miracles just yet from Jim Harbaugh
The offense is a major work in progress, and while the team should be much more cohesive than during Brady Hoke's swansong in 2014, the Michigan Wolverines still have plenty of issues to address before they start thinking championship. Who will be the quarterback? Will Amara Darboh or Dennis Norfleet emerge as a true #1 receiver? How will the team handle the inevitable growing pains associated with youth and inexperience?
The spring game didn't answer those questions, but it at least provided some optimism that there are answers to be had.
