New Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh wasted no time in acquiring his offensive coordinator, bringing in USC offensive line coach Tim Drevno. Drevno was assistant under Harbaugh from 2003-2013, following him from San Diego to Stanford to San Francisco before spending this past season at USC.
He served as San Diego's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2003-06, when he then joined Harbaugh as Stanford's tight ends coach. Drevno was later named offensive line coach of the Cardinal, and kept that title on Harbaugh's staff with the San Francisco 49ers.
Drevno's speciality is creating a dominant running game, something he's done at every stop.
"He leads in a very ferocious manner with the run game," said J.T. Rogan, Drevno's tailback at the University of San Diego, told the Detroit Free Press. "He has great technique and his fundamentals and principles are very sound. He's sent multiple people to the NFL… His knowledge of the run game especially is absolutely elite. We had an outstanding run game at USD, outstanding run game at Stanford, at USC. Wherever he goes he will have an outstanding run game and will absolutely be the case at Michigan. He is a phenomenal coach."
Prior to taking over the offense at San Diego, he served as a position coach at San Jose State, UNLV, Montana State, and Cal State Fullerton.
This will be the first time Drevno will call plays since 2006, when he was at San Diego. During his tenure, he helped with national titles in 2005 and 2006 while setting school records in points per game and total offense both years. San Diego led the nation in passing offense, total offense, and scoring offense in 2006.
Drevno will also serve as the offensive line coach for the Wolverines.
