After last week's loss to Utah, the Michigan Wolverines come into their Big Ten season opener with their backs against the wall.
Minnesota is off to a strong start and will look to jump out to a perfect start in the Big Ten with a win in Ann Arbor.
Records:
Michigan: 1-2
Minnesota: 3-1
Last Meeting: Michigan won 42-13 in 2013
Key Stat: Despite being just 2-2, the Wolverines have outgained their opponent in total yards every game this season - including their 31-0 loss against Notre Dame.
Michigan Outlook: If Michigan didn't have enough controversy with the future of head coach Brady Hoke, last week's 26-10 loss versus Utah only added to it.
Now starting quarterback Devin Gardner may be losing his job after going just 14/26 with two interceptions last week. Backup Shane Morris wasn't a whole lot better, finishing 4/13 with an interception.
Still, it's looking like a game time decision on who starts this game for Michigan. With Hoke and the Wolverines staring into the abyss of their 2014 season, this game becomes important for the future of everyone involved with the Michigan team.
Minnesota Outlook: The Golden Gophers are off to a good start this year, heading into this matchup with a 3-1 record.
Starting quarterback Mitch Leidner is questionable to start on Saturday, but Minnesota has been getting it done on the ground with senior running back David Cobb.
He is off to an impressive start with 539 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
What to watch for: Whether there is truly a quarterback controversy or coach Hoke is just making it tougher for Minnesota to game plan, the Wolverines starter is going to be a big factor in how this game is played.
It doesn't matter who the starter is, the Wolverines need better production from the quarterback position if they hope to get on track with a win, and ultimately save Hoke's job in the process.
Minnesota will continue to pound the football on the ground, which is trouble for Michigan if they fall behind early.

Until the Wolverines can prove they have their offensive woes solved, it's tough to be confident in their ability to beat anyone right now.
Minnesota has played a soft schedule to this point, but they catch the Wolverines at a perfect time for a road victory.
