Coming off one of their worst losses in recent memory, the Michigan Wolverines take the field Saturday looking to get back on track after a 31-0 dismantling at the hands of Notre Dame.
They host a winless Miami (OH) team in a game that the Wolverines need to win to turn things around in the early going.
Records:
Michigan: 1-1
Miami (OH): 0-2
Last Meeting: Michigan won 16-6 in 2008
Key Stat: Michigan had gone 365 consecutive games without being shutout before last week - the longest such streak in FBS history.
Michigan Outlook: It should only get better from here for Michigan. After their shutout streak ended last week, the Wolverines will pick up the pieces and try to rally with a few win-able games ahead.
Devin Gardner turned the ball over four times against Notre Dame, putting together one of his worst games of his career.
The good news is that the Wolverines offense still moved the ball against a tough Irish defense, giving some hope that the team didn't really play as poorly as the final score suggests.
Miami (OH) Outlook: The Redhawks have the privilege of going into Ann Arbor to face a Michigan team who is out to prove they're better than their loss to Notre Dame.
That means things could get ugly for Miami, who is 0-2 in losses to Marshall and Eastern Kentucky.
Quarterback Andrew Hendrix has the offense moving efficiently though, posting 338.5 passing yards per game - good for 18th in all of FBS.
What to watch for: Gardner and the Michigan offense will be coming out firing on all cylinders. After an embarrassing loss last week, expect the Wolverines to be even more focused for this game.
Holding onto the football will be priority number one, and will likely be the focal point of practice this week.
Miami Ohio will look to keep up their strong pass attack in an attempt to hang around with a motivated Michigan squad.
What they're saying:
Hoke: Big Ten will show it's great by season's end (Detroit Free Press)
Jake Butt surprises doctors with speedy knee recovery (MLive)
Prediction:
Michigan - 37, Miami (OH) - 10
The Wolverines can't afford to let their season spiral out of control because of one bad loss. Expect Gardner and the offense to have an all around better game, which in turn will take the heat off the defense.
