The Michigan Wolverines trail the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 21-0 at the half after a Chase McDaniel run and two touchdown passes from QB Everett Golson.
The Wolverines were unable to get anything going on offense, going just 1-6 on third down opportunities.
A cagey first half ended with the Irish up 7-0 after the McDaniel run, which was set up by two passes from Everett Golson and helped along by two pass interference penalties on the Michigan defense.
The second quarter saw Notre Dame continue to find success through the air - despite gaining just 2.7 yards per carry, the Irish offense made inroads by targeting sophomore WR William Fuller, who hauled in six catches for 68 yards in the half.
Michigan QB Devin Gardner was able to connect with receivers Devin Funchess and Jehu Chesson, but other options were hard to come by. Other than Funchess and Jehu, Gardner completed just three passes for nine yards.
Notre Dame's drive midway through the second quarter highlighted the struggles by Michigan's defense - the Irish didn't make any big gains, but chipped away at Michigan's D on their way to a 13-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that put them up 14-0. Golson was more efficient on his next drive, however, needing just six plays to drive 56 yards to the end zone.
First-Half MVP: Everett Golson
The Irish QB finished the half 16-21 with 169 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He looked poised and collected throughout, and showed solid chemistry with his receiving corps.
