The Michigan football program and its coaches are closely eyeing the quarterback recruiting efforts of the Texas Longhorns, as a huge signing for the 'Horns could be huge for Michigan's chances of landing four-star pro-style quarterback Zach Gentry.
Five-star Allen (TX) quarterback Kyler Murray is reportedly leaning towards flipping his commitment from Texas A&M to Texas after a great visit with the Longhorns. If so, current 6'7", 230-pound Texas commit Zach Gentry could very well flip his commitment and join forces with Michigan and new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
That is, if Gentry is still committed to the Longhorns in the first place.
“I don’t know exactly what Zach’s thinking right now,” one source said to Orangebloods.com Thursday morning. “I’m not completely sure why he’s cooled on Texas. I don’t even know if Zach’s still committed.”
One reason may be the lack of clarity surrounding his chances of winning the job outright in Austin. The other may be that the pro-style offense assistant Shawn Watson has helped implement at Texas may not be in place if and when Gentry signs with the school.
“He knows [assistant Shawn] Watson is getting heat. I know that’s on Zach’s mind,” one source said told them for their War Room. “What happens is Watson’s not there and could they be changing scheme?”
Gentry is taking an official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend, so keep your eye on the goings-on in both Ann Arbor (and Austin) by staying tuned to Chat Sports.
