Michigan football is embarking on a completely new era under head coach Jim Harbaugh, and 4-star Detroit (MI) Cass Tech running back Mike Weber is reportedly "torn" between keeping his current commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes and flipping to the revamping Michigan Wolverines.
Here's Wolverine247's Steve Lorenz with the report:
Weber remains torn from what we're told. Again, he has long grown tired of the process and would squash this immediately if he knew what he was going to do. This is something we've been told repeatedly as well. One random connection that we found after doing some digging is that Tyrone Wheatley actually recruited Weber for a short time while he was at Syracuse, so the two parties already know each other. That also goes to show you how long Weber has been recruited!
Until Weber publicly reaffirms his commitment to Ohio State and/or signs with the Buckeyes on National Signing Day, the Wolverines at least remain in the conversation. The coveted 17-year-old halfback is keeping his thoughts close to the vest right now, though, so stay tuned.
Other news & notes
* The Michigan Wolverines are expected to name former Paramus Catholic (NJ) head coach Chris Partridge to what is being termed as a "recruiting operations coordinator" position. If this comes to fruition, longtime recruiting analyst Tom Lemming says that the Wolverines will become the "odds-on favorite" to land a former standout of his, 5-star 2016 defensive tackle Rashan Gary.
*2016 five-star offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg received a visit from UM defensive line coach Greg Mattison on Friday, but he's still not budging from his final two of Notre Dame and Ohio State.
"I don't really think they can get back in it to be honest," he said, via 247Sports. "I have made up my mind and narrowed my options to two great programs."
