Michigan football may have its quarterback of the future in four-star Bloomfield Hills (MI) Brother Rice commit Alex Malzone - the 12th-ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2015, per 247Sports. Malzone was recruited by former UM offensive coordinator (and now Florida OC) Doug Nusssmeier, but has remained loyal to the Wolverines regardless of the upheaval in Ann Arbor.
In fact, Malzone hasn't taken a registered official visit since committing back in May. Despite visits from the rival Michigan State Spartans and Ohio State Buckeyes before his pledge, Alex has made it clear that he has 'Michigan Man' written all over him - especially after recent comments that he "100 percent" wanted Jim Harbaugh to be the team's next head coach after Brady Hoke's dismissal.
From a statistical perspective, Malzone's prep numbers are eye-popping on first glance. In his junior season, he completed 67.6% of his passes (190-of-281) with 25 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He followed that up in 2014 by posting a 64.9% completion rate (211-of-325) for 2,998 yards, 38 touchdowns and five interceptions.
However, it's his junior year which initially caught the eye of the Wolverines - a near mistake-free campaign where Malzone was named All-State and as the runner-up for Mr. Football in Michigan (2013).
No stranger to success, the recently-enrolled Malzone is ready and willing to make an impact at the next level.
"I know he wants a quarterback who can throw and be competitive, and I definitely feel I can be that guy," Malzone said of the "business-like" Jim Harbaugh, via the Detroit News. "I enrolled early to get bigger and stronger, to learn the system and compete in spring for the starting job."
Incumbent Shane Morris will have a say in that matter, but Malzone has both the confidence and the talent to shake up the Wolverines depth chart sooner rather than later.
