Michigan Wolverines defensive coordinator Greg Mattison has been nominated for the 2014 Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation's best assistant coach.
According to Nick Baumgardner of MLive.com, "this is the second time in Mattison's recent four-year stint with Michigan that he's been a Broyles nominee. He was a finalist for the award after the 2011 season, his first with coach Brady Hoke."
Mattison is one of 40 nominees for the award. He was also nominated for the award during his time with the program back in 1996.
While the Wolverines offense has sputtered to say the least during the 2014 college football nation, Michigan's defense has played top-ten football.
Mattison's group currently ranks ninth in the nation in total defense, allowing a stingy 301.8 yards per contest. They are ninth against the run (107.2 ypg), #24 against the pass (194.6), and also rank 19th nationally in tackles for a loss (79).
The 40 nominees for the award will be whittled down to five finalist prior to the award being given out on December 9th.
