In this Michigan football news and rumors update, the re-addition of TE Jake Butt to the Michigan Wolverines' offense gives the team a chance to utilize some different sets going forward this season.
Butt's return from a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee has already paid dividends for the Wolverines, as the sophomore found pay dirt last week against Miami (Ohio) on a 29-yard score.
Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has taken notice, and could tailor some of the team's play calls to take advantage of Butt's six-foot-six, 249 pound frame - especially if WR Devin Funchess' mysterious leg injury results in a lengthy absence.
"We may play more tight ends. It just depends on what we want to do," Hoke said (via Dan Murphy of ESPN.com) about a potential alternative plan if Funchess can't play against Utah on Saturday. "... I think again, you go back to the tight end position with getting guys ready for different personnel groups, I think that’s a positive."
