When his dad, Jim Harbaugh, took the head coaching gig with the Michigan Wolverines, former Baltimore Ravens offensive quality control coach Jay Harbaugh saw his opportunity.
It wasn't just the fact that he'd have a chance to serve in his first full-time position coaching role under his father that drew Jay to Ann Arbor. It's the fact that he's heard so much about how "special" Michigan is from his father.
"I heard about (Michigan) all the time as a kid, non-stop," Jay said, via MLive.com. "I was always told it was just the best at everything. All the great players, the great games over the years. Watching them with my dad (on television was always special). Just a constant message about what kind of a special place this was. And now, I get it. I get why he always told me that stuff.
"It's been a blast (working with him). I've enjoyed it, it's been fun."
Even though Jay is only 25 years old -- by far the youngest of the coaches on the staff -- Harbaugh's lifelong indoctrination into the game of football has him approaching his job like a veteran.
"I've trained over the last few years in terms of different schemes and ways to approach the game," he says. "This is a really good group to be a part of. Guys came in from all over, and they're all tremendous teachers.
"Being able to see different ways of answering the same questions is really what I've enjoyed. Sometimes you can get set in your ways of 'oh, this is the answer to that problem or this is the adjustment you make.' But you realize there's more than one way to going about something ... and you can carry that with you for the rest of your career."
