Michigan Wolverines interim athletic director Jim Hackett outlined his top priorities for the media on Saturday afternoon, indicating that he has been given final say on the evaluation of the football team (and head coach Brady Hoke) after the 2014 season comes to an end.
According to Dan Murphy of ESPN.com, "Hackett declined to provide any specific criteria he would use when evaluating the program and Hoke, but said Michigan has no plans to hire a new, permanent athletic director before he decides if any changes are needed with the football team."
Hackett has met with Hoke several times since he stepped into the role on October 31st, and says the coaching staff has done an "extraordinary job" battling the adversity the program has faced this year.
"We have a football coach who has had a long history of being a good coach," Hackett said. "He knows we're not where we need to be right now."
However, with Michigan now at 5-6 after Saturday's home loss to Maryland, it's very possible that the future of the coaching staff hinges on what happens against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus next week.
